Village House and its partners address the needs of these women through the provision of food, shelter, hygiene services, spiritual support, as well as a part-time case manager who is the coordinator of social services to the guests. Through support of our local religious assemblies and their volunteers, our goal is to provide these vulnerable women with a caring, loving environment while at-tempting to stabilize their lives so they move beyond their homelessness. Village House is in the process of developing a sustainable year round rotating shelter. The vision is that a network of churches and temples will provide a year round rotating shelter for up to 15 medically fragile women. The network will ideally include 12 over-night shelters coordinated with day shelters. While the network is providing the women with meals and a safe environment during the evening, the church partners will help provide their guests with warm showers every night, a luxury most take for granted. Village House is not a drop-in homeless shelter. Guests are referred by professional social workers in the homeless system of care. Volunteers at the participating faith based organizations help with preparing and serving meals, overnight supervision, laundry, security and transportation, as well as ministering to the women’s need for care and companionship. The rotating shelter is one way the faith community in Silicon Valley is trying to help in a small way to help a small segment of the problem for over 4000 Comments are closed.
