Sunday School Teacher at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church
Seeking Two Teachers

Office: 435 S. 10th Street, San Jose, CA 95112
Worship Location: Notre Dame High School—596 S. Second Street, San Jose, CA 95112
Position: Sunday School Teacher
Hours: 3 hours per week (2 hours on Sunday, 1 hour prep during the week)
Pay: $20/hour


Please Note: You are not expected to come with prior knowledge of theological and biblical teachings. You will be provided with guidance, assistance, and curriculum.

Overview: St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a reconciling congregation, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Sunday School Teacher to join our team! This role is vital in nurturing the faith and spiritual growth of our children in grades 1 through 8. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that affirms and celebrates the diversity of all individuals, including LGBTQ+ members of our community.

Responsibilities:
-Prepare engaging lessons aligned with our curriculum, ensuring discussions are affirming and inclusive. Curriculum and guidance will be provided. (The teacher is not expected to come with prior knowledge.)
-Set up the classroom and materials prior to Sunday sessions.
-Teach and lead Sunday School classes, fostering an enjoyable and educational experience.
-Communicate effectively with volunteers to coordinate efforts.
-Create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for all children.
-Clean up after each session and maintain the classroom.

Qualifications:
-Experience working with children, especially in an educational or church setting is preferred.
-Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
-A willingness to help young people explore stories of faith and faithful people.
-Commitment to inclusivity and affirming discussions surrounding diversity and LGBTQ+ identities.
-Ability to create an engaging learning atmosphere that reflects our church's values.

Candidates will be subject to a background check and required to complete the Safe Gatherings training.
